Imagined on the occasion of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, this projection presents itself as a tribute to French culture and the spirit of sport. In front of several thousand spectators gathered in a festive atmosphere, the Vélodrome National de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines becomes the setting for a gigantic fresco projected onto the track. Rhythmed by several tableaux, silhouettes of cyclists appear in decomposed movement, evoking the mechanical grace of the sporting gesture and the cultural heritage of the first animated images. The projection culminates in a visual climax: stroboscopic effects and an explosion of bright colors convey the collective momentum and intensity of the sporting performances.
CONTEXT
In response to a request from Videlio and Paname 2024, STROBOSCOPE was asked to conceive a unique creation for the Paris Olympic Games, one of the world's most watched events. Marked by popular fervor and collective enthusiasm, this 2024 edition stands out for the festive effervescence that animates the public. The challenge for STROBOSCOPE is to offer a creative concept that matches this event, echoing the values promoted by the Games: surpassing oneself, solidarity and excellence. But also to highlight the singularities of French culture, while finely fitting in with the overall artistic direction of Paris 2024.
ARTISTIC DIRECTION
STROBOSCOPE's approach is based on an exploration of the decomposition of movement, at the crossroads between the virtuoso gestures of top-level sport and the very origins of cinema, born of a succession of still images giving the illusion of movement. Bodies appear in monochrome, as if suspended in time. These images then shift to marbled textures, discreetly echoing the ancient statues in the Louvre collections, conjuring up an almost mythological aesthetic. Then, movement accelerates, transfigured by strobes and saturated light in the colors of Paris 2024. The Vélodrome cycle track becomes the very backdrop for the projection, a monumental stage on which the sporting gesture is magnified.
